How do you cool a room without air conditioning?
Here are some fun things you can do with ice to keep your home cool.
- Use two frozen water bottles and put them in front of the fan. Believe it or not, it will keep you cool!
- You can also put the leaves in a freezer bag and place the bag in the freezer. When you’re ready for bed, take the bag out and use it.
Wear light-coloured clothes. In the heat, I wear a long-sleeved black shirt and jeans. JK. Don’t forget to dress in bright colors and loose fitting clothes. If you want to walk around naked…. Uh… Stay home, I don’t want you arrested. All kidding aside, make sure you and your family are dressed appropriately and keep your cool. Bright colors are best, and comfortable, loose-fitting clothing will also help.
Drink water. You’d be surprised how many people don’t drink enough water. Some people don’t drink water all day! Water keeps you hydrated and cool in hot weather. This is very important and people should take it seriously! Dehydration doesn’t help at all, and drinking water throughout the day helps keep you cool. Remember, water (from the tap) is free and you can even pour it over your head. Can you do that with soda? I can’t believe it! LOL. But seriously: Water is needed to stay alive, to ensure organ function, to prevent heat stroke, etc.
Open a window at night. Let the cool breeze enter and refresh your home. Do it at night, not during the day!
The slow cooker or instant pot are your friends. This Puerto Rican loves homemade food. I’m gonna do it! I don’t have air conditioning in my kitchen, and when it’s hot, this mom hates going into the kitchen. Use of the stove and/or oven will create an inferno in the kitchen and dining room. So my slow cooker and instant pot are to the rescue. There is nothing I love more than the ease of use of the slow cooker and Instant Pot. It keeps the temperature down in my kitchen. I don’t have to spend time in the kitchen. And above all, the food is delicious.

We were so used to using our window units until we saw the bill jump to $700. When did we become such children that we can’t stand the hot weather? You have to love the internet and find creative ways to stay cool on the internet. We watched a video on YouTube showing how to make a home air conditioner with ice or cold towels and a fan. Take a cool shower. Take a cool shower and don’t dry yourself off with a towel. Let your hair wait to keep it fresh. The evaporating water provides a cooling effect.
Visit the library.

Avoid going out in the middle of the day.
You see, lunchtime is not the hottest time of day, it’s usually the middle of the day. Pay attention to local weather forecasts and don’t go out in the heat of the day.

Switch off the electronics.
